Chadwick Woods, a 7th grade student at St. Theresa Catholic School in Phoenix, and the son of Lillian and Keith Woods, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2012 Arizona National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek.  Bees were held in schools with fourth- through eighth-grade students throughout the state to determine each school’s Bee winner.  School-level winners then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society.  In each of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools, and the U.S. territories, the National Geographic Society invited the students with the top 100 scores to compete at the state level.

The 2012 Arizona National Geographic Bee will be held Tucson Convention Center, Tucson, on Friday, March 30, 2012.

The state winner will receive $100, the “Complete National Geographic on DVD”, and a trip to Washington, D.C., where he/she will represent Arizona in the national finals at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 22 – 24, 2012.  The first-place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship and lifetime membership in the Society.  The national winner will also travel (along with one parent or guardian), all expenses paid, to the Galápagos Islands.  The winner will experience geography firsthand through up-close encounters with the wildlife and landscape of Galápagos. Travel for the trip is provided by Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic.  For additional information on the National Geographic Bee please visit www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee.

National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild will air the final round of the 2012 National Geographic Bee, moderated by Alex Trebek, on Thursday, May 24 (to be followed on public television stations).  Please check local television listings for date and time in your area.

Posted by on Feb 7, 2012 in Interlock Arizona | 0 comments

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ. – Arizona ignition interlock device installation and service company, Driver Advisors, opens their sixth Arizona location, in the town of Prescott Valley today.  “Up to this point, clients have been forced to use contract shops that specialize in window tint or stereo installation and work with interlocks on the side,” says Dan Laux, president of Driver Advisors, and a former Prescott Valley resident. “Now, with our new installation and service center in Prescott Valley, clients have the option of working with a local company dedicated to the installation and service of ignition interlock devices and nothing else. We work hard partnering with our clients to help them protect their driving privileges and are proud to become more established in the Prescott area.”

Arizona law requires that individuals convicted of a DUI must use ignition interlock devices in their vehicles for no less than 6 months, when  eligible to reinstate their license. An ignition interlock device requires a person to  provide a breath sample prior to starting their vehicle.  If a specific amount of alcohol is detected, it will prevent the vehicle from starting.

Only companies authorized by the Arizona Department of Transportation are allowed to install and maintain interlock devices.  Driver Advisors is Arizona’s exclusive provider of Guardian Interlock; a pioneer in the industry and the most advanced interlock design on the market.
